Definition of prejudice
What is the definition of prejudice?
The unfavorable, unfair and unwanted feelings towards people or a person because of many reasons like gender, religion, cast, nationality, class education, age, job, disability, race, sexuality, values, beliefs or many other personal attributes. It is mostly due to a person’s or people’s group membership.
Prejudice in our society
Of course we have many people who think poorly of other people. Sometimes because of their race and sometimes because of different religious beliefs. Prejudicing and stereotyping is destroying the society in the worst manner possible. Even America faces it. Every person should be respected for what they bring in the society and what they have to offer rather than being stereotyped and humiliated.
If someone gives you a good advice or help you, you just take it and do not dig in to see from where they came from and what they experience. In the same manner if someone does bad to you for instance he cheats you in a business and let’s think he was an African American then you are not going to assume that all the African Americans are bad and cheaters. Of course you will move on and again do business with them if you get a chance. You will not stop interacting with African Americans because not all of them are bad, it was just one person. It was not the entire community or race who did bad to you so why do you think all of them are the same? and they will cause you pain.
Yes it is good to be careful but setting your mind on behalf of one bad experience or person or even a group is not right to do in any cost!
What are we?
We are humans and we are wise and smart. Don’t let one bad experience ruin your thinking about a specific group of people. We are ruining this world with our own hands. We do not realize how we are unintentionally making this world a war zone. Yes whatever is happening right now is happening because all of us. It’s not one person, it’s all of us!
We are often very quick and cruel to make false judgement and bash people with allegations that are not even a bit true. What we do not understand is that the things we like the least and which are least appreciated make us learn the big lessons of life.
Prejudice creates ignorance in our society. It embraces cruelty. For one of the associate professors of a college Prejudice is like a cancer.
He said: “Prejudice makes the victim feel defensive and works on you like a cancer does on a person.” .
What should we do?
People who have been prejudiced or are being prejudiced are failing to tell the world who are they and what they have to offer this society.
We are just living inside our shells and we only gravitate to people who are like us. We need to come out of our shells to see what the people who are not like us have to offer!
