Strong Black Man
People don’t only stereotype the strong black woman but also the strong black man is being stereotyped. Now the question occurs, who is a strong black man? Why is he being stereotyped? What are the reasons? and why he is known as BLACK? isn’t racism? Let’s discuss everything one by one.
Who is a strong black man ?
Strong black man is a man who everyone thinks is really strong so he can not cry, seeks for sympathy or feels sad. Just because these men look physically strong, the world believes hat they are emotionally strong too and they do not have that fragility to feel sad or cry. But in reality strong black men are the same as other men of this world. They are not too strong to ignore what they feel. They also have emotions and they also need a shoulder to cry on, ears to listen and hands to hold.
These men are never given any opportunity to take their stress, vulnerability or feelings out which emotionally breaks them. They are denied from the luxuries of speaking out their heart out. They are forced to act like they are very strong and independent all the time.
As black strong women who have given up on their fragility, femininity, gentleness and softness, the strong black men have also sacrificed too much. Just for the sake of keeping their reputation in the eyes of the world, they forgo their happiness.
Sadly, many men have given up on their dear lives because they felt very heavy to be with us.
Being mentally healthy is far important and necessary than being physically active. These men also want support and attention and people who acknowledge it regardless of their strength. They want to be strong yet want people to understand they can also have low moments at times. These men are tired of keeping up with the image of strong men in the society. They feel caged. You can not survive for long if you feel like your feelings are being imprisoned.
Who is a man? Strength? Right? Most of us will agree with the answer. But a man can not function without feeling. They can not live without restricting their emotions. They can not live without embracing what they feel.
How to stop strong black man stereotype
This is the damage the society is creating. Damage creates damage. To stop this inhuman stereotype something has to change. Many black men have started to speak about their experiences with emotional issues. There still is a long way to go because no matter how much they have spoke about it, the stigma attached to mental health still remains.
All the people who live around these strong black men have to understand one thing that is no matter how strong they look they are same as we are from inside. They might appear to be emotionally strong too but they also need someone, two ears to listen to them, and a shoulder to cry on to share their feelings with.
